Sex in politics of the South

Everyone prayed hard for the rains last summer and 'God' decided he would send forth a good downpour to the state that prides itself on being either his birthplace or someplace he adopted as his along the way. The summer heat was almost unbearable in Kerala and the monsoons hit with a vengeance and rocked Chandy sir's government with the arrest of a bold trickster in the guise of the foxy Saritha. S. Nair, a divorcee with a background in financial fraud. Currently the face of the financial and sex scandal cradling the UDF which is being pelted with demands for our dear chief minister Mr. Oomen Chandy to step down, the first images of Ms Nair showed a confident, calm, collected and well dressed lady who seemed unperturbed by the fact that she was under arrest for embezzling over 10 crores.

Apart from all the well-to-do doctors and business men she easily convinced to invest in her imaginary solar and wind power projects, she is also accused of having an affair with Ex -minister and MLA K.B. Ganesh Kumar. The opposition didn't get time enough to capitalize on this scandal before being bogged down by MLA Jose Thettayil's recent state of affairs with another divorcee who according to local sources is quite a vixen herself. Like someone in the crowd pointed out quite rightly that her accusation is quite bizarre in itself - she agreed to be sexually preyed upon by the father to get him to let his son 'marry' her or at the very least blackmail him to... what? anyway the physics of that relationship is for those who have the perpetual need to click on that juicy headline that reeks of sex.

Ask Sreesanth...or on second thought never mind, I must admit the first time i read the word honey trap was in an article about famous women spies quite a long time ago. I'm unsure whether to categorize these women among them as each of them have a different story and the damage caused in each of these cases can be surveyed from a hundred different angles. Be it the women who were escorting Sreesanth to his bedroom... err doom as a cricketer, Ms Sarita . S. Nair or was it Mrs..., and of course our dear Thettayil's Sir's itch. These ladies certainly are the determined type, if they were going down they were going to take down someone responsible with them. Not always has a woman scorned yielded such results in our greatly patriarchal society, not even when the mother of a girl who took her own life decided to follow her daughter into the nether world than live with the shame of being sexually abused, which one Mr. Kanda an MLA from Sirsa is surely a witness of. It wouldn't be right to bring up past and out of state ghosts as there plenty floating around in the present.

So it was being said that the floodgates have to be opened and suddenly people are dying in Uttarakhand, the ones desperately clinging onto life in a pilgrimage that had to be suspended abruptly and the government shuts down all tourism services to the flood hit region and begins rescue missions, a few in the government looked around and spoke about getting help to the few malayalees stuck there, maybe send a copter and fly them and whoever can fit in. 'It doesn't seem to be of the most concerning matter right now because we don't even know if we're gonna be in these seats tomorrow' seems to be the a thought imprinted on many minds in the assembly.

Poster-girls of the downfall of the LDF and the UDF government on either sides are probably worried about how this is all going to turn out or unimpressed by the threat of morality or patriarchy and such.

I'm certain we're heading there, a completely developed westernized state. We have the elections like every state, the highest literacy rate in the country, highest life expectancy, highest sex ratio, a rapid increase in sex scandals and we probably are spiraling towards becoming the ideal state setting standards for other states to follow, hence 'the American dream' for every aspiring politico and youth party member in Kerala becomes, 'A malayali's dream' which translated to Malayalam is increasingly starting to sound like the title of a popular soft porn flick starring Shakeela or some other southern siren that gets all the old men worked up.

The word out on the street from a local daily wage laborer who lights up his beedi standing at the tea stall nearby the ex-minister’s house while the place is crawling with policemen to keep the protesters in check is that "It really is a shame to see a politician belittled in such a short span of time. Bring in a woman and they all come tumbling down just like poor P.J. Joseph." The online community enticingly offer you a peek into the leaked video of the sex scandal the 62 year old ex-transport minister's good name brings up on Google. While the general populace is squirming at the thought that a one time public prosecutor who struggled to become the transport minister of the state could have so quick a downfall.

Well if only it were as easy as being a Kardashian or a Hilton all this could have been put to good use now, what say Mr. Adarsh Tetthayil. I wonder if the son who has reportedly gone into hiding has a comprehensive idea of the shit storm his little affair has created for his father and how quickly it dimmed his political future. Or maybe it could also turn out as they say ‘any publicity is good publicity’ and we could witness Mr. Thettayil rise like a phoenix from the ashes of this monsoon’s sex scandal. The longer it takes to reach a conclusion, the more it unravels with twists and turns turning it into something delightful for the media to up the TRP ratings. At-least Sreesanth should have stopped crying now that all these scandals have taken away the spotlight from his historic stupidity and fall from grace.
